49 Types of Wind - Sundarkand
Hanuman and 49 types of wind - Sundarkand
Tulsidas ji wrote in Sunderkand that when Hanuman ji set Lanka on fire, the wind started blowing fiercely. The verse says - 'Hari preet tehi avsar chale marut unchaas.' Meaning, when Hanuman ji set Lanka on fire, the winds started blowing fiercely. What could the 49 types of winds mentioned by Tulsidas ji be? After research, there are 49 types of winds and amazed to learn about the ancient knowledge of wind science in Sanatan Dharma.
Surprisingly, modern meteorologists might have yet to learn about this! In the Vedas, there is a detailed description of the 7 branches of wind. Most people think that wind is just one type, but its form changes, like cold, hot, and moderate wind. However, that's not the case. In reality, the wind inside water has a different name in the Vedas and Puranas, and the wind in the sky has a different name. The wind in the atmosphere has a different name, and the wind in the netherworld has a different name. Having different names means they have different properties and behaviors.
The 7 types of winds mentioned in the Vedas are:
1. Pravah - the wind that flows from the earth to the clouds
2. Avah - the wind that is bound to the sun's orbit
3. Udvah - the wind that is established in the lunar world
4. Samvah - the wind that is situated in the constellation orbit
5. Vivah - the wind that is situated in the planetary orbit
6. Parivah - the wind that is situated in the orbit of the seven sages
7. Paravah - the wind that is bound to the polar region
Each of these 7 winds has 7 sub-types, totalling 49 winds. These 49 winds are like divine beings that roam in different directions. We often read the Ramayana and the Bhagavad Gita. However, we discover many hidden and knowledge-enhancing facts when we delve deeper into the small details.
